P240F EGR slow response – active code P2201 NoX circuit performance – passive P0401 EGR insufficient flow – passive Tested EGR pintle value = follows commands properly. Tested NoX reading = high. Tested Diesel particulate filter ash load = .11l (max .46l). Exhaust is making abnormal noises under load. Found a flange gasket blown and leaking exhaust onto DEF injection nozzle. Service bulletin for the EGR codes calls for replacement of EGR filter and diesel particulate filter together. The EGR filter and exhaust regeneration procedure will often solve the code.

Under the Volkswagen software, found P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0506, P1250, P119a, and P2187. During initial test drive, the check engine light was not on and vehicle ran okay except for some hesitation. On second test drive, the check engine light came on with the current code: P2187. This is where we started the diagnostic procedure. Tested for vacuum leaks and fuel trims. Found fuel trims very high and excessive vacuum on crankcase. Removed vacuum tube to the breather and fuel trims dropped. The cause of this is likely a ruptured crankcase breather. It is also possible the lean condition will cause misfire codes and/or the low idle code. The fuel pressure sensor code was intermittent. There is also code 01259 (fuel pump relay) in central electronics module. This can also cause drivability problems. Was not acting up during test drive. 3 monitors have not been set: there may be further codes set when first problems are fixed. Testing thus far $159.00 plus tax.

Confirmed there is a grinding sound from the rear brakes. Will need to replace the rear brake pads and rotors. Will not know about calipers till they are removed
Replace rear brake pads and rotors. Clean and lubricate caliper slides. Clean wheel hubs for correct rotor to hub contact. Check and fill brake fluid. Road test vehicle.

Flat Tire Repair (tire is not repairable)
Tested vent operation, 80 degrees from left vent, 60 degrees from middle vents, 50 degrees from right vent. Tested Inlet temperature at 179, Outlet at 110. This indicates very poor flow through heater core. Checked coolant condition, found coolant very sludged Will first need a chemical cleaning of cooling system to remove sludge. Then could try backflushing the heater core.
Mount and balance two tire/wheel assemblies.
Flushed the heater core using flush chemicals and water pressure from a hose. Flushed both directions in and out to try to dislodge any restrictions. Reassembled and ran the vehicle. There may be a little improvement. Most likely will need to replace the heater core to get the maximum heat.
Access cabin filter housing remove old air filter. Clean out housing of debris. Install new filter. Fasten housing.
